Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does Cabcode do ?
A: Cabcode is a service to design cabinetry and produce the production files - cutting lists and CNC files - to get it manufactured
Q: How much does it cost to use Cabcode ?
A: There are no upfront fees. As you create designs an indicative cost is shown. You can build the Cabcode cost into your job cost so you have no overhead.
Q: How do I get started with Cabcode ?
A: There are three ways of using the Cabcode service:
- Vist the Cabcode website at https://cabcode.uk/cabs, select a cabinet, customise sizes/materials/features and add it to your order list.
- Download the Excel order form at https://cabcode.uk/order-excel, select cabinets from drop down list, customise sizes/materials and email completed Excel file as an attachement to quote@cabcode.uk
- Scan the QR code for a cabinet which takes you to the design on the Cabcode website. Customise sizes/materials/features and add to your order list.
Q: I have a list of panels, can you make drilling files for them ?
A: Probably not. Our system is geared up for calculating panel sizes and drilling simultaneously as efficiently as possible. Trying to match drilling to an existing panel would be a manual operation and hard to ensure that the panels would fit together.
Q: Which cabinet fittings do you support ?
A: Cabcode works with fittings from Blum, Hafele and Lamello. Amongst other fittings, our designs use Movento/Tandem drawer runners, Tandembox, Legrabox and Hafele Matrix box systems, Blum INSERTA and screw-on hinges.
Q: Which device/computer do I need to use for the Cabcode service ?
A: Cabcode is a cloud-based service and runs on any device whether mobile or desktop. Manage jobs on the go with your mobile phone. Cabcode does not rely on any other software to work, you don't need Autocad, SketchUp etc.
Q: How will the cut and edge company get the drilling files ?
A: Cabcode generates the cutting list in Microsoft Excel format and we send the drilling files to your chosen cut and edge company directly.
Q: I have particular edgebanding needs, how do I specify this ?
A: The cutting list is created in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format. When you are ready to put a job into production you can edit this spreadsheet to set the edgebanding for every panel. For example some customers want the edges of the cabinet side panels to match the edgebanding colour of the doors.
Q: Do you calculate cutting plans and amount of boards required ?
A: We don't calculate cutting plans as Cut and Edge companies have their own software to calculate this and connect to their beam saw. However in the Excel files with cutting lists we generate, a calculation is made on the Summary tab to work out the number of boards required. This calculation factors in total area of all the panels required and then assumes a utilisation figure of 75% which typically works well for bedroom and kitchen furniture.
